Nigeria’s health minister, Isaac Adewole, said on Friday that his government is determined to rid the country of polio again. New cases recently landed Nigeria back on the list of countries where the disease is endemic. Adewole met with Rotary leaders at Rotary International World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA, to discuss Nigeria’s recent efforts to stem the outbreak. All three of the country’s cases were detected in the northern state of Borno, which was under the control of Boko Haram militants until recently. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the virus has been...

Even as parts of Haiti were still recovering from a catastrophic 2010 earthquake, Hurricane Matthew tore through the impoverished island country Tuesday, leaving hundreds dead and many more homeless. The Category 4 storm has affected an estimated 330,000 people in Haiti, including 6,400 who have been moved to temporary shelters. Extensive damage to main bridges and other transportation networks have left some areas cut off and vulnerable. Torrential rains have resulted in flooding and landslides. And contaminated water supplies threaten to lead to a surge in cholera cases and other waterborne...

Understanding Stress
A very enlightening talk was given by Psychologist Jackie Bailey, our very own Trevor Bailey’s daughter.

She spoke about understanding stress, what it is and how to manage it.

This included identifying warning signs and triggers.  Ways to combat stress are to establish routines, looking after your health and spending time with people who care for you. She encouraged us to notice and “Self-Talk” and practice relaxation.

Sometimes you just have to chill out

Some members asked for Jackie's presentation.  It will be emailed to members.
Mock Interviews
The mock interviews are on again
Where: Hillcrest College, Soldiers Road Clyde North.
When: Wednesday 19th October
Time: 12 noon until 3.30 pm  Lunch Provided

A wonderful program where year 10 students supply a resume, cover letter and then have an interview for a potential job.  A great experience to prepare them for the real work force.
Lisa's two weeks
Over the school holidays Lisa travelled the Great Ocean Road with the Doubles via the Sorrento ferry.

She went on a girls trip to Kyneton with the Di and Wendy and Jess Boon.   They played tennis, went bush walking and checked out the old gold towns.

With great excitement, Lisa saw her first huntsman spider.

Lisa is making a list of things she would like to do while she is with us.  PLEASE include her in some of your activites.  It may be a movie or dinner with the grandchildren.

Remember Lisa belongs to the WHOLE CLUB, not just the host families.

PS.... she is a lovely young lady to have around
