Club Meeting 1st March 2017
Another enjoyable meeting with a good turn up of guests this week.

We welcomed Luke Bevan from Berwick College who was our sponsored student at the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. Along with him were his parents Jeanette and Roy, Mark Woodbridge (Assistant Principal Berwick Secondary College), Terry Trevena from the College and Roger Hall (President School Council Berwick College & RC Narre Warren)
Also a return visit from David Barwick from District 1150 in the UK who is staying at the Kusters.  Di Sheepers returned as well.

Thanks from Adrian Funston for the assistance with the Wilson Park Working Bee.

Lisa was not with us this week because she has been invited to a dinner for students with high aspirations and achievements in the senior school.  Congratulations to Lisa as only 32 from the whole Senior School were invited.

RC Narre Warren have asked if we can help with the Mental Health Forum on the 29th March.  It is mainly with setting up from 4-6 pm. and packing up from 9pm.  The forum is being held at the Narre Warren P-12 College.  Please see Viv if you can help.

The Golf Day Flyers are out.  Please spread them far and wide.  It’s a club effort supporting the St John of God Hospital.  Please contact Mick.

Good to see Peter Mangan with us during his treatment.
Bill Minns is in St John Of God Hospital Berwick.  He is sleeping a lot.
Wendy Langdon has twisted her ankle
Adrian Froggatt is getting up and about and now home after his hip replacement.

Graham Johnstone informed us that the District Protection Officer Frank Spiteri will be resigning in June.  He thanked the club for its support over the years.

Jokers Wild left the Joker sleeping, with the jackpot now $355

Lachlan Bevan - National Youth Science Forum
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a 12 day residential program for students entering year 12 who are passionate about science, technology, engineering and maths.  It aims to show participants the wide variety of study and career options.

Lachlan Beven was our sponsored student.  He attends Berwick College and is very passionate about science.  He enthusiastically spoke about the practical experiments as well as the lectures they attended.

Visits to the Canberra Institute of Technology, Australian Federal Police, Parliament House and the Australian Defence Force Academy among others were included.

They learnt about critical thinking, agricultural science, robotics, quantum physics, aeronautics, entrepreneurship and what happens next.

Major companies and Universities has information stalls.  Lockheed Martin, CSL, CSIRO, Cochlear and IBM took Lachlan’s interest.

A range of social events kept everyone entertained.  Lachlan eventually wants to do Aerospace Engineering focusing on satellites.  Lockheed Martin is where he would like be.

Lachlan presented both President Mark and Mark Woodbridge from Berwick College certificates.

We congratulate Lachlan on his achievements and wish him well in the future.  He is sure to achieve his dream.

Centurion Club supporting Foundation
Jim Armstrong proudly handed over a container to Pete Batterham with $100 worth of $2 pieces in it.

He is now a member of the Centurion Club which all money goes to the Rotary Foundation.

In this Centenary of Foundation year it would be fantastic if all members can contribute.  Pete has more containers if you want one.

When you empty out your wallet or purse, the $2 coins quickly and painlessly add up.  Then you too can be a Centurion.

Deb Ball Rehearsals
The first rehearsal went off really well with a lot of payments coming in.  There are 49 couples over 2 nights.

RC Cranbourne approached us to have some Cranbourne students participate in the balls.  They are unable to as the students must be from Berwick College.

Some more helpers are needed on Monday afternoons from 3.30pm until 5.30pm.  No dancing skills required.
Please contact Pete Batterham if you can help.

Ride to Conference
Jim Wilson spoke about his wife Josie riding 600km in 5 days along with Lisa.

Please consider sponsoring both Josie and Lisa as they ride their bikes up and down the hills of Hobart.

Donations go to Life Education, Disaster Aid and Centenary House in Traralgon.  All donations made go directly to the beneficiaries, participants fund their own expenses themselves.

Happy Snaps
