We had the pleasure of learning a bit more about our lovely exchange student Lisa Bayer from Germany.
She is 16 years old and comes from Jever, a small village in North Germany close to the North Sea. She has an older brother and younger sister. Dad is a Dentist and Mum runs his office.
Lisa’s sponsor club is the RC of Wilhelmshaven-Friesland. They have 2 outbound students this year.
On weekends they sail on their boat to the east northern islands. She likes to play volleyball, tennis, do gymnastics, dance ballet, read books and meet friends.
We learnt about Oktoberfest, breweries, sauerkraut, sausages, schnitzel and Dirndls.
School is very different here to Germany. It is much easier going. There is a better relationship with the teachers. Here there are fun subjects like Outdoor Education. In Germany it is much more serious. She is looking forward to going on the tours while she is with us.
We also learnt things that are Not True in Germany,
Not everyone eats only sausages and drinks beer
They don’t wear socks with sandals.
Not everyone goes hiking.
Germans can make small talk.
Not everyone loves soccer.
Lisa’s Councillor PP Viv gave a vote of thanks saying that Lisa most enjoyable person to be around, has so many wonderful qualities and such good manners.
We still need another host family. Now that you have met Lisa and heard how lovely she is, please give serious thought of how you can have Lisa become part of your family.
