Some Rotarians have reported receiving a scam email asking them to click a link to update names and contact information in a directory. The email, which stems from a gmail account, is not from Rotary.

Rotary members in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, celebrated 100 years of The Rotary Foundation on 23 October with a banquet and a concert by The Cleveland Orchestra that have so far raised more than $2.1 million for the Foundation's next century of good work. Arch Klumph, a Cleveland Rotarian, planted the seed for The Rotary Foundation in 1917, with his idea of having an endowment fund dedicated to "doing good in the world." Today's District 6630 leaders thought that a concert was a fitting way to honor Klumph and mark the centennial because of Klumph's love of music. Klumph performed in several...

Club Meeting 23rd November 2016
Our meetings start with a little bit of formality with the singing of the National Anthem and then we are into it.

Things to note from the board meeting are:

Board agreed to pledge a total of $15,000 spread over the next 3 years to SJOG.

Board agreed to order 30 x assorted size “Ask Me About Rotary” T Shirts for stock.

Board agreed to appoint Total Workwear Berwick as out official uniform supplier for the next 3 years.

This year’s Board Meeting Minutes and Director Reports are to be made available within the “Members Area” of the club website.

Thank you email from RFDS golf day.  Thanks to the members who assisted in getting the day together, especially the sausages.  A total of $31,000 was raised on the day.

A Certificate of appreciation has been received from End Polio Now for last year’s contribution to Foundation.

Invoices for the Christmas Cakes and puddings are ready to be paid for.  3 1/2 boxes have been donated to the Benevolent Society from member’s purchases.

RACV has a free series of seminars on lifestyle issues for seniors.  They may be added to the program at a later date.

Sad news that Rod Ladd has resigned from the club.  He has enjoyed his time with us.  He wishes all the best for the future of the club.
Julie Allgood is also leaving us soon as a business venture is taking her to Albury.  She will be on LOA as an interim.
We are very sad to see them both go and thank them for all the work they have done over the years for the club.

Geoff Double spoke about on to conference.  The ride to conference starts on the 19th March 2017 in Hobart with the conference commencing on the 24th March.  Please think about attending and register soon.

The safety of members and visitors at meetings have been discussed by the board.  Emergency exit plans will be put in place and mentioned at the start of each meeting.

In Rotary style, Sandi gave Carol the opportunity with jokers wild and left the money to jackpot.  On the other hand, Darius in his unique way extracted money out of most of us in the fine session.
Dr Luke Crantock on Bowel Cancer

It is most prevalent in the Western World and one of the most common types of cancer.  Many cases can be preventable with screening and lifestyle changes.  It is rare under 50 years of age.

of long term survival, 68% chance surviving 5 years from diagnosis

Key Points:
Lifestyle Measures, Identify risk, Screening for asymptomatic patients, 33% reduction in mortality with early detection, Colonoscopy reduces incidence by up to 72%, Colonoscopy reduces mortality by up to 68%

Much hilarity and interest from most, but not all members ensured by close inspection of a CLEAN colonoscope.  The amount of questions showed how interesting and informative our speaker was.

PS: go and have a colonoscopy, its not as bad as what you think.

Rotary in the News
Jane our PI person has been doing a great job getting the Rotary word out.
We have been in the local newspaper 3 times.

The St John of God visitors at a recent meeting.
Pictures from the RFDS Golf day.
An article about the manager of the Berwick Cemetery Trevor Thompson spoke glowingly of Rotary building the Rotunda.

A belated thanks to Jane for the great job of organising the troops and pictures etc for the golf day.
Lisa's Week
On Sunday, Lisa went with the Caulfield’s to Melbourne Zoo and then to a Pets Hotel and dinner which she really enjoyed.

Her exam results are in and 87% for Science was the best one with between 70 and 80% for the rest.  She is preparing for year 11 subjects next year.

Jen & Steve Marshall came for dinner to sort things for the changeover of host families.  Lisa also enjoyed her first 37-degree day here in Australia.

The word for the day is überraschen which means surprise.
Tom at RYLA
Tom Mikolajewski spoke about the recent weekend at the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).
30 young people attended the weekend camp.

They had group tasks and learnt about different types of leadership styles.

He learnt a lot about himself and realised that most people are very similar.

Tom enjoyed it very much and a very proud father in Darius looked on as we heard about it
