Club Meeting 20th July 2016
President Mark welcomed everyone and handed the meeting over to Chairman Bob Lay for the night.
With much fanfare Ricardo handed over the Sergeant’s collar and gong to Darius as the incoming Sergeant.  Darius has been travelling so was not here for changeover.  Ricardo charged Darius to keep control of the meetings and make sure everyone behaved themselves.
Later the fine session was well received, even if a few members were a bit confused.
Fred Edwards was presented with a much deserved recognition of 20 years continuous service with Rotary.  Fred started with the now disbanded Rotary Club of Upper Beaconsfield.

Make Ups
It’s a big Rotary world out there.  Please let us know if anyone attends another club or Rotary Function.  It is entitled to be claimed as makeup in lieu of our own meeting.  It is always good to hear what other clubs are getting up to.  Even Bill and one of his lady friends (ie: Sharmaine) went and visited the Rotary Club of Casey.

News from the Secretary
Teams for year still being sorted by the directors.  All members should be contacted about what team they are on, if not please contact Mark or Adrian about a job.  The handbook will be published shortly.
Berwick Primary School have enlisted the BBQ’rs on Tuesday to aid in a fundraiser

Inductions, birthdays and anniversaries can only be celebrated on the correct day if the correct information is submitted.  Please check on the web site (club runner) www.rotaryberwick.org  to make sure your own details are correct.
David Button will help with getting you logged on if you need it.  Once you get the hang of it, it’s not that hard.

Betty with her usual gentle style handed out very well received chocolates.

Lea looks to be happy about being on the other side of the desk
Treasurer Wendy and Carol have it all under control

Farmers & Craft Market
Bruce spoke about this week’s market.  This is his last one as manager. The team of Bruce & Robyn Shaw, John & Helen Rosenthal and Geoff & Di Double have done a magnificent job of rejuvenating the market.  Well done !!!!

There are about 45 stalls booked with some new ones and others dropping out due to seasonal variations.  A sheet went around for jobs on the day.  Please come along even if you only have an hour to spare.  The more the merrier.  The Old Cheese factory committed to earth works and drainage repair to market site.  This will happen after the market over the next few weeks.

Terry Carmichael as the new manager spoke about the overwhelming commitment from the survey to continue the market. Trevor Bailey has agreed to be Assistant Manager. Team leaders for each area are in place to organise their own areas, eg, gate, parking, PR etc. Terry thanked all the club and those who have committed to the cause.

Fellowship is important and Terry wants a focal point for Rotarian's to meet on the day.  It has been suggested to move the Rotary Information tent to near the BBQ.
Centurion Club
Peter Batterham has taken on the role of coordinating the Centurion Club.
For the first but probably not the last time with the microphone, he encouraged everyone to become a Centurion Club member by donating $100 to The Rotary Foundation.
Coin containers that holds 50 $2 coins are available for those who want them.  A very simple way to quickly get to $100.

Bill Minns was a bit cheeky and sent around the container for donations.
It rattled with coins when it came back.....he also received a fine for his efforts.

Fundraising Projects
Terry with his Fundraising hat on spoke about the fundraising events for the year.
In no particular order we have: The Biggest Morning Tea, Art Screens with $12000 worth of bookings so far this year, Deb Balls, possibly a Race Day, Trots Night, BBQ’s, Golf Day, Farmers & Craft Market, possibly the Multicultural / International day at Nossall, Sponsorship with St John of God Hospital and the Bendigo Bank.
Jokers Wild
We buy our tickets every week hoping to win, but not really expecting to.  This time Terry Carmichael hit the jackpot of $1453  Ever the generous host he shouted drinks at the bar.
Treasurer Wendy signed one of her first cheques to hand over the winnings.

Cycling in Holland
Laury Gordyn gave a short talk on his recent trip to Holland with his daughter and 2 grandchildren.  A highlight was having an apartment as a base and then cycling everywhere for 12 days.  Locking the bikes along with 5000 other bikes at a train station is normal there.

With no helments or lycra, it was very civilized as people dressed for the destination not the journey.
Ever the technology buff, Laury as well as the grandchildren were very impressed that free WIFI was everywhere.  Apps for transport timetables caught his eye as well.
A stop in Paris on the way home finished it all very nicely.
Stories From Bulletins Past
The Jokers Wild game was implemented to raise funds for the erection of the Rotary shed.  Click below to see the bulletin notes at that time.
