FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK - 29.11.2017
On Wednesday members of the Rotary Club of Berwick with their families and friends – including the Inner Wheel Club of Berwick - descended upon the new St John of God Hospital complex in Berwick for a tour of the facilities as it prepares to open its doors on 18th January 2018.
The new $120 million complex, will house state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to significantly expand the range of healthcare services to our rapidly growing community. Thank you to CEO Lisa Norman and her team for being such wonderful hosts and congratulations on this great achievement.
On the same day that the new facilities will open, the old hospital in Gibb Street will close its doors. For over 100 years the Gibb Street site has provided healthcare services to the Berwick and broader community.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL - PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2017
Ian H.S. Riseley
President 2017-18
Seventy-two years ago, the United Nations was founded "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war ... [and] to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours." Despite those worthy aspirations, and generations of investment in achieving them, the "scourge of war" is still with us: Last year, more than 102,000 people died in 49 armed conflicts around the world. Some of those conflicts were in their fifth decade or beyond. Terrorism, intolerance, and extremism; the refugee crisis; and environmental degradation are now global challenges.

WHY ROTARY?
Why should Rotary be your charity of choice?
Because our 1.2 million members see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
Here are six reasons to donate to Rotary.

1. We fight disease around the world
For decades, Rotary has been a leader in the battle against polio and has kept the pressure on as worldwide cases plummeted from 350,000 in 1988 to only 15 cases so far this year. We’re closer than ever to ending this devastating disease.
Your impact will be even greater, thanks to a 2-to-1 match from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. All donations (up to $50 million) to end polio will be tripled, providing critical funding to our work to create a polio-free world.
