Club Club Meeting 15th March 2017
This week’s meeting saw a change in proceedings.  We had a fellowship evening.  Recognising that fun, fellowship, knowing one another, and friendship are very important parts of our Rotary experience and life. Shock, horror, there was no top table – everyone was mixed in together.  Business items were minimised which maximised time for all of us to chat and interact at the tables.

Members and guests wondered what the coloured stickers were for at each seat.  After main course, every second person had to stand and move to the next table.  With drinks in hand, the noise level increased dramatically as people suddenly found themselves next to someone different.  All of us tend to sit with the same people.  What a fantastic way to get us out of our comfort zone and chat with someone we may not normally be with.

With international visitors and potential members, it turned into a great meeting.  Chairman Terry Carmichael and Sargeant Darius gave us a history lesson and kept things moving.

There will be a board meeting on Monday 21st at Treasurer Wendy’s home.  Members are invited to attend if the wish.

Bill Minns is currently at the St John of God Frankston Rehab.  His medication has been changed and he is back on track.

The Mental Health Forum run by the RC Narre Warren has enough workers, so do not need our help.

Keep an eye out for raffle tickets for the Golf Day.

The Jokers Wild jackpot was left undisturbed by Treasurer Wendy.

Darius in his usual style gave us a history lesson with the fine session.  This time it was about Finland and WW2.

International Visitors
One of the best things about Rotary is that you have friends all over the world.  This week we were privileged to have guests from Finland and Hong Kong.

Risto Takeinen is from the RC Ylojarvi in Finland District 1390.  They have 48 members and chartered in 1967. His club has similar activities to ours.  Risto and his family lived in Endeavour Hills for 5 years, 40 years ago as a Pastor with the Lutheran Church.  They are staying with friends in Berwick.

Samson Chow and Winnie Wong are from the RC of Smart Hong Kong.  The club is in District 3450 and is for leaders in Information Technology. They have 54 members.  He told us that their children went to school and St Margaret’s and Haileybury.  He has a software company developing mobile relationship systems among other things.  They chose to visit us because his was born on the day that our club was chartered.

Samson wrote us a very nice letter:

Thank you very much for giving Winnie and I a chance to participate the meeting tonight. It was a wonderful evening and we both enjoyed the time with you all very much!
Please say thank you for me to all of your members and especially the president, Mark.
I hope I may see you all again when I come back to Australia the next trip.
All the best to all members of the Rotary Club of Berwick.

Best Regards,
Samson Chow

Holland Festival Volunteers
Ian Donald from the RC Monash filled us in about the Holland Festival.

They are asking for volunteers for helping on the 7-9th April.  There are lots of jobs.  You do not have to be there all the time, different jobs and shifts are available.  All members have been sent the application form, please see where you can help and get them in ASAP.

Although it is a RC Monash event, they are looking to distribute funds in the Casey area.  They have over $24,000 in sponsorship at this stage.  Busloads of people are coming from as far away as Geelong.  Our big marquees will be used, so the RC Berwick will have signage at the festival.

Lisa's Week
This is Lisa’s last presentation for a few weeks.

She is attending the Ride to Conference and then heads off on the Rock to Reef tour.

She thanked all her ride sponsors and has already raised $900,  but will gratefully accept more.  T

This week she spent the weekend at Bairnsdale.  Congratulations go to Lisa for being on the Beaconhills Senior School Surfing team.
Foundation Video
Tim showed us a video about the Rotary Foundation.
A century of doing good in the world.

It’s an inspiring 5 minutes of your time.
Next Week's Meeting
Wednesday night brings another great guest speaker!

Anne McGill, Past Inner Wheel Australia president, National Project (Cord Blood Research) Coordinator, City of Casey Citizen of the Year, being three titles of many, will be visiting us.

The story of Cord Blood Research will inform, educate, surprise and inspire you. Such great work is being done in the field.

It's a partners and guests night so come along and bring your friends. If you're bringing a partner of friend, make sure you book through attendance@rotaryberwick.org for catering purposes!

See you there!

Happy Snaps
