Tonight our guest speaker is Jesse Barnett. Jessie is a 14year old student at Kambrya College.
Jesse will be attending wth Carmel Ukena who is a teacher at Kambrya College. Jesse has High functioning Autism and is still able to show excellent leadership being voted class captain every single year at the school. He excels given responsibility and enjoys a challenge. Jessie does get exhausted blocking out noise in the background and at times struggles with talking with his own peers.
Jesse is excellent with his manners and assisting students with any problems they are having. Jesse is great with participating in school leadership with ANZAC days ie raising and lowering flag for school at assembly. Jesse is always trustworthy and reliable and very responsible. He has a very mature manner and always assists teachers with any requests.
Ms Ukena says he was extremely helpful when she had computer issues with Microsoft teams teaching Science. Jesse always had patience to help me when I got stuck and the other students as well.
Through out the three years Ms Ukena has known Jesse he has always shown interest in helping the community. The last two years Jesse has shown a deep desire to get involved in Politics to make the community a better place to live in.
Jesse’s smile and enthusiasm is contagious and very heart felt. He always tries to improve things for students at Kambrya College and Ms Ukena is confident that moving onto his local community will be a natural progression. Jesse is extremely hard working and has much energy to put towards his goal of getting into politics. He is genuine and real and has a photographic memory that simply would put many of our current politicians.
All Jesse needs is an opportunity from Berwick Rotary Club to see how he can make an incredible difference in his local community, like he has at Kambrya College.

This week's guest speaker is Peter Haine from the Rotary Club of Monbulk Peter will be telling us about his involvement with the Male Bag Foundation and in particular his participation in this year's Male Bag Ride The Male Bag Foundation works to raise awareness of prostate cancer, to support men in rural areas and use the funds they raise to help fight prostate cancer. The foundation became aware that access to safe and accurate biopsy methods was seriously lacking in rural areas. As a result the foundation now works directly with rural hospitals to allow men access to the gold standard prostate biopsy at their local hospital. The Male Bag Ride started in 2013 and is an annual fundraising ride/tour completed on Postie Bikes. This years ride back in March covered almost 1000km around regional Victoria. The foundation's patron is football legend David Parkin who regularly participates in the Male Bag Ride.

If you have sons, grandsons or nephews this is a ‘not to be missed’ evening. Find out about how Australian Rotary Health is working with Monash University to look after the young men in our lives.
Dr Kylie King is a Senior Research Fellow at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University. She has expertise in male suicide prevention research and is particularly interested in the capacity for public health interventions to have positive impacts on boys and men’s mental health and suicidality across the lifespan. She is leading an evaluation of a school-based suicide prevention intervention aimed at adolescent boys, and is also conducting research about suicide prevention for the construction industry. Kylie has also worked as a psychologist across public and private settings.
We will also be focusing on Lift the Lid on mental illness so wear a hat and help raise some funds for Australia Rotary Health! |
