President's Rumblings
What a great vibe we had at our last meeting, with 28 in attendance and a great guest speaker.

Will Russell enlightened us about his profession as an Urban Planner and the role urban planning has played in the Level Crossing Removal Project.
Whilst most people have been impacted in one way or another by the necessary disruptions the level crossing removal works have the imposed, the project has created some amazing public spaces out of what was previously rail corridors with little or no aesthetic appeal. The project has implemented numerous cycle paths and play spaces largely created due to the implementation of the Sky Rail option.

I was particularly reminded of my brief time working for Metrail some 40 years ago when level crossings were upgraded with boom gates in many locations. I worked on the project installing boom gates at three crossings in Noble Park, all of which have now been replaced by Sky Rail and allowing the creation of the Djerring Trail.

There were so many questions for Will that many folks stayed on after the meeting closed to continue chatting to him.

Meeting chair Jane was rightly very proud of her nephew.

It was great to see Tim back from his hip operation, Mary as she continues her recuperation and Louise and Lou after their recent trials.

Next week we will be hearing from Terry Pollock as he tells us about his amazing hobby with radio controlled model aircraft.

Hope to see some of you at the District Governor Partner Project fundraiser dinner on Tuesday 6th and don’t forget DIK open day on Saturday 10th.

Cheers,
Andrew
