What a great day was had last Sunday, 16th July, at Grasmere Reserve, planting a lazy 1300 trees.
Through the work of Jen Marshall to organise the day, we had a strong turnout of planters. Diana Gomez-Fullaway took it upon herself to invite the local Joey's and Cub troops to help out, and they proved extremely willing helpers. The St Margarets School and Berwick Grammar School Interact Club were well represented. which was very pleasing because we oldies need all the help we can get!
With a strong crew of 63 planters and soft ground, the trees were planted in under one hour. The work was easy and enjoyable, with plenty of time for a chat, meeting new people and even time to spend teaching the younger ones how to plant a tree.
Afterwards, there was a well-catered BBQ with all the trapping of a Rotary BBQ feast. PP Jack Kraan, assisted by Ann and Michele, cooked up a storm.
