On a very hot and sunny Sunday, 3 February, twenty-nine Rotarians, partners and friends visited the Marengo Redoubt vineyard in Murrays Road, Moorooduc, to taste their range of wines and learn about Bee Keeping.

Our generous hosts, Rosslyn and Andy Thompson, provided samples of their Marengo Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir wines to taste and afterwards we were treated to a barbecued lunch of salmon, lamb and salads, followed by dessert.

Rosslyn advised us that she had been an international exchange student to Denmark in 1991, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Noble Park,  She had thoroughly enjoyed the exchange experience and has maintained a strong link with Rotary ever since.

The meal was followed by a very interesting PowerPoint presentation by Andy on bee keeping and the production of good honey.  The life of bees that he described was fascinating and prompted many questions.

He also outlined the costs, regulations and some of the pitfalls associated with keeping bees.

Everyone enjoyed the visit and the informative presentation, in spite of the heat.

Thanks to Di Double for organising the visit.
