Welcome to our vibrant and relaxed Rotary Club, where community spirit thrives alongside a sense of ease and camaraderie. Picture a place where laughter mingles with purpose and friendships are forged through shared experiences and meaningful endeavours.
Last week we had our international visitors. Yezdi & Porochi Batlivala from the Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs of Poona Downtown, India. It was great to hear about the projects these clubs are undertaking and the great good Rotary is doing in India. Upon hearing about the great need that exists in many parts of India, even for what we consider to be basic services, I am reminded once again that Australia really is the lucky country.
Spring is here
Have you noticed your mood brightening, you’re feeling more optimistic and just generally starting to feel good? That might be because Spring is here.
Spring can evoke feelings of happiness and well-being for several reasons, related to both environmental and psychological factors:
More Sunlight: After the darker winter months, spring brings longer days and more sunlight. Sunlight helps regulate our circadian rhythms, boosting mood and energy levels by increasing serotonin production in the brain.
Warmer Weather: The gradual warming of temperatures makes outdoor activities more comfortable and enjoyable. Being able to spend more time outside in nature has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and increase feelings of well-being.
Renewal and Growth: Spring is associated with new beginnings, as plants and flowers bloom and animals become more active. This sense of renewal can be contagious, inspiring feelings of hope, rejuvenation, and a fresh start.
Increased Socialization: Warmer weather and longer days naturally encourage people to spend more time outside and socialize. Social interactions can improve mood, provide emotional support, and reduce feelings of loneliness.
Exercise Opportunities: With more pleasant weather, it’s easier to engage in outdoor activities like walking, biking, or running. Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood boosters, which contribute to feelings of happiness and relaxation.
Colour and Beauty: The vibrant colours of spring – blooming flowers, green leaves, and blue skies – stimulate our senses and can have a positive effect on our emotions. Beautiful environments often promote feelings of joy, calm, and inspiration.
Symbolism of Rebirth: Spring is often seen as a time of renewal and rebirth, both in nature and in life. This symbolism can make us feel optimistic, as it represents new opportunities and a chance to start fresh after the dormancy of winter.
Together, these elements create a mix of environmental and emotional stimuli that naturally enhance our mood and contribute to the overall sense of well-being that many people experience during spring.
My own garden is starting to show the arrival of Spring which always has me in a brighter mood.
Next week out guest speaker is PDG Dr Daryl Moran, D9815 Youth director. Daryl will be presenting to us on the vast array of youth programs available in our district.
Rotary is committing US$500,000 to bolster the initiative, channeling these funds through a dedicated Polio Outbreak Response Fund. This contribution represents Rotary's sustained support to the World Health Organization in combating polio globally.
