Last week I gave a Behind the Badge presentation on my background and my patch to joining Rotary. I hope those in attendance found it interesting. Gus has not escaped doing his Behind the Badge, so look out on future weeks for that one.
We were joined by four visitors last week, Penny back for a second visit, Randal, who also came to our cemetery clean-up, Jamie and Vicky.
The past few days have been busy with on-line meetings. On Friday I attended and on-line district president’s meeting where there was a big focus on membership and potential new clubs, and update on the End Polio program and information on a new district wide Environment initiative. Stay tuned for more info in coming weeks. One Sunday there was a district International projects meeting that covered projects in Timor Leste, Sabu Island, Ukraine, Days for Girls, and Birthing Kit Foundation. Many members will recall our club conducted a ‘packing night’ for the birthing kits a couple of years ago.
Presentation Ball Dance Practice gets underway this week at Berwick College. This year we have around 90 students participating. It’s always great to see how they progress from and often clumsy start to looking quite accomplished by the time the balls come around. Many thanks to those club members who have volunteered to attend the practice sessions.
Coming up next weekend we have the annual Clean-Up Australia Day. Check out the details elsewhere in the bulletin.
Great News, the BBQ trailer is complete. We are soon to take delivery. We now have to organise the signwriting to promote our brand and that of our sponsors. We’ll also be planning to host a few more BBQ’s to ensure we get good use from it.
This coming week our guest speaker is Jed Davey. Jed is a year 12 student at Berwick College who was sponsored by our club to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January this year in Brisbane. Jed is coming along to tell us about his NYSF experience. It’s sure to be an interesting topic.
