President's Ramblings
Welcome to my final edition of President’s Ramblings.

As I sit here writing this, it truly feels like just yesterday I was putting on the President's chain for the very first time. How quickly this Rotary year has flown by! It's been an incredible privilege to serve as your President, and I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved together.

We've certainly had some great outcomes, and I'm so grateful for the dedication and hard work of you, our wonderful members. Your commitment has made this a truly memorable year.

I'll save the full recap of the year for our Changeover Dinner next week, and of course, for the Annual Report. Suffice it to say, we have much to celebrate!

Speaking of Changeover, don't forget it's this week on Wednesday! With around 60 people confirmed, it promises to be a fantastic night. I'm really looking forward to celebrating the past year with all of you, and, of course, officially welcoming Jen as our new President. The club is in excellent hands, and I can't wait to see what wonderful things she and the new board will accomplish.

Thank you again for an unforgettable year. It's been an honour and a pleasure.

Cheers,
Andrew

St John of God Update

At last week’s meeting we had Rhonda O’Connor and Shelley Cooper from St John of God Berwick as our guest speakers. We’re grateful to both for attending, but especially Shelley who stepped in at the last minute for Lisa Norman who was unwell. It was great to get their update on recent developments and especially to hear of the new trauma recovery unit for emergency services and defence force personnel at the Langmore Centre. The unit has 12 beds dedicated to providing inpatient services is particularly focussed on providing car and support to first responders suffering from the effects of PTSD.

Last weekend a small group of Berwick Rotarians visited the St John of God Berwick Hospital to start preparation works for an ambitious gardening project at the hospital site.
Our preliminary works involved identifying the viability of existing watering systems, removing the non-working pumps from the chapel garden pond and scoping the requirements for reinstating the pond to a working state, as well as measuring up for planter boxes for the maternity unit garden.
This project marks the next step in our ongoing partnership with SJOG Berwick and will involve a number of working bees over the coming year which will provide all members a chance to get involved in whichever way they can assist.

We wish the new club every success in its Rotary journey, and will keen follow its progress as we consider to the possibility of establishing our own satellite club.

Rotary Theme for July 2025 -
Maternal and Child Health Month

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

The Rotary Foundation reaches mothers and children in need by giving communities the help and training they need to take control of their own maternal and infant health care.
