President's Ramblings

Last week we had a great presentation on Project LEMUR by Paul Lloyd. Paul along with two fellow members, David and Janet, from the Rotary Club or Southern Mitchell made the two-hour trek down to tell us all about their project in Madagascar.

Project LEMUR: A name synonymous with Madagascar particularly for the cute little animals with which it shares its name, actually stands for Lift Every Malagasy Up Rotary.

Paul told us about the terrible situation in Ambovombe at the southern tip of Madagascar following 6+ years of drought. The project aims to provide support to the St. Vincent de Notre Dame de l'Androy (St. Vincent’s) school. He talked about the challenges of getting support to this community, including the 3 days it takes to travel by road from the capital Antananarivo, a journey of roughly the same distance as Melbourne to Sydney.

The project is aiming to raise $40,000 to provide vital facilities such as water filtration, school equipment and solar panels (their power currently gets turned off during the day).  It will also help to continue to fund daily school meals for around 120 children whose families are unable to support them.

A team is scheduled to travel to Ambovombe in September this year.

More information can be found on the project at: https://www.rcsm.org.au/project-lemur

It is a RAWCS registered project. Details can be found here: https://directory.rawcs.com.au/2-2022-23

BBQ Trailer Update

On Saturday, Geoff, Jack, Louise J and myself went to Pakenham Trailers to see the progress on our much awaited new BBQ trailer. The good news that it is progressing well and should be complete in a few short weeks.  The new trailer will be fully enclosed with lift-up sides, two slide out BBQs, sink, fresh and grey water tanks, slide-out storage drawers and up front storage boxes. Here are a few photos to whet your appetite:
