President's Ramblings

Last week's meeting was a real treat! We took a break from our usual agenda and dove into some good old-fashioned fun. There was laughter all around as members got competitive (in the friendliest way, of course) over Uno, showed off their steady hands during, and tested their trivia knowledge in a lively round of Trivial Pursuit. It was a fantastic reminder that Rotary is about friendship and fellowship just as much as it is about service. Thanks to everyone who came out and brought their game face – and their game spirit!

April is Rotary Environment Month

As we move into April, we celebrate Rotary Environment Month – a time to reflect on the positive impact Rotary clubs around the world are having on our planet. From planting trees and supporting reforestation efforts, to organizing clean water initiatives and reducing plastic waste in communities, Rotarians are stepping up for Mother Earth in meaningful ways.

One shining example is the Adopt-a-River program in Africa, where Rotary clubs are cleaning and monitoring rivers to protect water sources. Another inspiring initiative is Operation Pollination, which aims to restore pollinator habitats to support biodiversity. These projects are proof that together, we can make a difference.

Looking Ahead: Special Guest Next Week!

Don’t miss next week’s meeting – we’ll be welcoming a very special guest: District Governor Nominee Emma. It’s a great opportunity to hear her vision, share ideas, and continue building momentum for the great work we do as Rotarians.

Bowling Challenge delayed

Due to very limited availability of members from The Rotary Club of Monbulk, our bowling Challenge originally planned for April 16th has been postponed by a few weeks until May 28th.  More time to find your bowling Mojo and hopefully return the title to Berwick.

Cheers,
Andrew

DG Partner Project Fundraising

This year, Leanne Byron’s 2024-2025 Rotary District Governor Partner Project is raising funds to support the Monash Children's Cancer Centre, a remarkable institution dedicated to helping children with cancer.

The goal is to raise $100,000 to train an in-house Apheresis Clinical Nurse Consultant who will provide life-saving treatments. While it’s a significant sum, this support can make a profound difference for many children, offering them not just a chance at life but a brighter future.

Monash Children's Hospital already has the equipment, facilities and medical expertise to provide Apheresis Therapy to our young patients, but the key is in the in-house Apheresis Clinical Nurse Consultant to unlock the delivery of the program. Apheresis therapy will also be a vital part of delivering personalised "Precision medicine", which is the future of cancer treatment. That future isn't far away, and providing this specialised nursing role now will equip Monash Children's Hospital for many years to come.

Please help us fund a specialist Apheresis Nurse to improve the quality of care and survival chances for children with high-risk cancers.
