I want to start this note with a vote of appreciation for David Button. The behind the scenes work done with our comms, public image and the encapsulation in video of the volunteer work completed on Saturday at the Langmore Community Garden was enjoyed by everyone on Wednesday night at our meeting. No-one asked David to do that, he just did it.I hope everyone took something from the presentation on Wednesday night on the Power of Appreciation. I reckon any time we take to remind ourselves about ways to be better people, is time well invested. For those that couldn’t make it, here’s a link which will allow you to view it in your own time
Another couple of things going on behind the scenes that you should know about.
We were nominated for a Casey Community Award which I have progressed and submitted on the club’s behalf a summary of who we are and what we are about so let’s see where that takes us.
Also Jen Marshall recommended that we register as a charity for the can deposit scheme which I have also commenced and we should be in a position to start receiving small donations pretty quickly. I’ll keep you posted.
I also want to share my appreciation for the work that Jane Moore has done in putting our Christmas Party together. It’s gonna be a fun evening and a great way to draw the curtains on 2023, recognise the work and contributions of every Rotarian within our club and say Merry Christmas.
Finally, my appreciation goes to Geoff Double for leading the 1st stage of construction of the Langmore Community Garden. It was just terrific to see so many club members on the tools and really putting in, so that this partnership project with St John of God Hospital can progress, and in a few short weeks it will be ready for the community to use.
From a Public Image point of view it was wonderful to see most members wearing our uniform and being easily identifiable in public. We had our teardrop banners and from the road, we looked amazing! Trevor, our Membership Chair even had a good conversation with a potential Rotarian and I think looking sharp and professional goes a long way toward making a lasting impression and inviting people to ask questions. The Ask Me about Rotary tee shirts really stood out (Thanks to Jane Moore for ordering them and Trevor for handing them out). It was a wonderful morning on so many levels. Burr Hoe anyone?
