Tonight we will be joined by the members of the Rotary Club of Biggleswade from the UK District 1260. Michael Scott-Worthington and his Club members will be learning about BlazeAid from Vice President Isobel Caulfield. We should remember that the Rotary Club of Biggleswade donated money towards our fundraiser for two BlazeAid trailers just after the fires. It is very fitting that they can get some feedback from someone who has actually been doing a bit of BlazeAiding and using the type of trailers that we fundraised for and supplied BlazeAid. It should be an interesting meeting! Hopefully, no one from the UK is still in their JimJams. The level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick is being removed by building a road underpass beneath the rail line. The project will also deliver an upgraded bus interchange at Berwick Station and new walking and cycling connections. Site investigations and engineering assessments found that a road underpass is the best solution for removing the level crossing, with other designs taking up to a year longer to build. Around 22,000 vehicles travel through the Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing each day, with the boom gates down for up to a third of the morning peak. Removing this level crossing will improve safety and traffic flow, while creating better local connections to the nearby residential, health and education precincts. Major works are underway and the level crossing will be gone in 2022. To keep up to date on the project, sign up for email updates or text CLYDE to 0429 218 131 for SMS alerts about travel changes in the area. On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025. https://us04web.zoom.us/j/907397432 Password: Rotaryzoom |

The age of wasted resources and sustainability is here. It is why we need to become informed about future development in our lives and in this case our passing. 1. Who is iContainer?
2. Why flat-palm casket and coffins?
3. Current situation.

So that we are able to get our ‘travel fix’ over the next 12 months (whilst we are not able to go very far due to COVID restrictions) we have some special people who will be sharing their favourite travel destinations with us. Bring along your partner, family and friends to enjoy ‘travelling’ to some amazing, interesting, historical and culturally fascinating places. Our first destination takes us on a journey with Gus and Viviana Dominguez to Malaysia. With reefs and rainforests, mountains and minarets, skyscrapers and sampans, Malaysia certainly lives up to its slogan: “truly Asia”. One of the world’s great cultural melting pots, Malaysia is a nation where Chines joss houses, Hindu temples and golden domed mosques jostle for space with towering skyscrapers. Certainly a destination that no one should miss.

Tonight we have a pleasure of hearing from Natasha Liddell. Natasha is a development manager for the Women's Property Initiative (WPI). The WPI provides long-term housing solutions to change women’s futures for the better and breaks the intergenerational cycle of poverty. They give women the opportunity to live with dignity and become involved in their communities by providing affordable housing. Natasha will be joined by WPI CEO Jeanette Large. The WPI have just built four two-bedroom homes in Beaconsfield. These homes will provide an opportunity for women over 55 with modest savings (but not enough to buy a home of their own), to escape the private rental market and invest in secure and affordable housing. Older women are experiencing housing stress at record levels and this program can prevent women from reaching this point. These four properties are new builds therefore they are in need of landscaping. Tonight Rotarian Jen Marshall will be asking you to roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty in October to help this amazing organisation complete this project by helping with the soft landscaping including planting and spreading mulch. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82647145617 Password: Rotaryzoom |

This week we'll be watching an enlightening talk from Daniel Flynn. In 2008 Daniel led a group of people who launched the Thankyou brand and have seen it grow from a small start-up become one of Australia’s leading mainstream social enterprises. Thankyou’s products are stocked by major retailers in Australia, with every product contributing to helping end global poverty. To date, Thankyou has raised over $17 million to impact the lives of people across 22 countries. |

This week we will have a night that will be a little challenging, but full of fun, with a chance to catch up. Please send in a photograph of one of your tools. Why you may ask? Because the challenge will be to match the tool with the owner! The choice is yours to make! It may be a favourite tool, an old tool you can’t bear to part with, a tool you bought on a whim and then never used very often, a gardening tool, a building tool, a cooking tool, a craft tool, or a tool that you can’t live without! The choice is yours for whatever reason, but do have a story to go with it! Please send the picture to isobel@thecaulfields.com.au by Tuesday Oct 5th at the latest to make the night successful and a bit of a fun! Have pen and paper ready to write down your answers on the night. Everyone will score at least 1 on the quiz, when they see their own tool on the screen.
